In the beginning

In the beginningIn the beginning
Scottish: from an Anglicized form of the Gaelic personal name Fearsithe, composed of the elements fear ‘man’ + sith ‘peace’. Some early forms with prepositions, as for example William de Fersith (Edinburgh 1365), seem to point to an alternative origin as a habitational name, but no place name of suitable form is known. The spelling Forsythe is associated chiefly with northern Ireland.

Forsythe Family Crest and History

Where did the Scottish Forsyth family come from? What is the Scottish Forsyth family crest and coat of arms? When did the Forsyth family first arrive in the United States? Where did the various branches of the family go? What is the Forsyth family history?
The Picts of ancient Scotland were the tribe of the ancestors of the Forsyth family.  The name Forsyth is derived from the old Gaelic personal name Fearsithe, which means man of peace.
However, some recorded examples of the surname Forsyth suggest that it is occasionally a local name derived from residence a place named Forsythe.

Forsythe Early Origins
Before the first dictionaries appeared in the last few hundred years, scribes spelled according to sound.
Spelling variations are common among Scottish names.  Forsyth has been spelled Forsyth, Forsythe, Forseyth, Forsy, Foursides and others.
First found in Stirlingshire, where they held a family seat from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.

About Us

Greetings and welcome!

Business and a new addition to my family has kept me quite busy.  I know that many of you have tried to access the site and found if offline.  I apologize  but I really couldn't spend the time to keep it maintained properly.

I’m still using phpGedView as the family tree application, but have just migrated over to Webtree.  If you became familiar with GedView, you won’t find much change, and where there are changes, they are improvements.  Your old login credentials should still work fine if you remember them.  If not, you can request a password reset or create a new account.  (This is found under the menu item Family Research.

I’ve added new photos and stories but you’ll have to find them on your own. :)

One more note on the family tree section – in some cases, I do give extra permissions to people who I believe are sincere in family research and are in a lineage found here.  Just let me know and we can work something out.

Finally, I’ll try to keep this setup so that you can comment on postings without having to register.  I’ll have to see how bad the spamming becomes.  If it gets too bad, I’ll have to turn registration on.

Good luck and I look forward to hearing from you!

Family Tree Access

Access the Family Tree area now:  CLICK HERE

Previously, this site allowed visitors to register once, and after approal, those same credentials would allow them access to the Family Tree area.  Unfortunately, this is not the case right now.  There just isn't a good bridge that will link Joomla and the webtrees application.

If you want to access only the family tree information as a member, you must register or login using the link above.

If you would like to have access to the main site which allows use of the Discussion Forum, leaving comments on articles, etc., you must register there as well. If you register in both areas, it might be easier if you use the same user name and password.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience and will continue to get a good solution implimented as soon as one is available.

Thanks!

RF
